Each year, on the first Sunday in February, clowns gather for a church service in East London in memory of the British clown Joseph Grimaldi (1778-1837).

Who was Joseph Grimaldi?

Joseph Grimaldi ("Joey") is regarded as the greatest British clown. He was born in London in 1778 and died in 1837. He introduced the idea of the pantomime dame , the concept of the tragi-comic clown and encouraged audience participation. These traditions continue to this day.

Church Service

The church service usually starts at 3pm at Holy Trinity Church in Dalston

Afterwards there is normally a performance by the clowns in a nearby school, and a chance to visit the Clowns Gallery and Museum.
