European Safer Internet Day (SID) is supported by countries throughout Europe and during the week, a range of activities will be taking place across the continent to help protect young people online.

The theme for SID12 is ‘Connecting generations and educating each other’, and the slogan "Discover the digital World together…safely!"

On 7 February 1812: Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. He spent much of his life in Kent and London.

Charles Dickens wrote some of the most popular and widely read novels of the 19th century, from Oliver Twist to A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations. He died of a stroke in 1870 and is buried at Westminster Abbey, London.
