Gandhi

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869.

Why is Gandhi famous?

Gandhi was an Indian political and spiritual leader who achieved world honour and fame for his advocacy of nonviolent resistance as a weapon against tyranny.

.
He influenced Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela and millions of other people.

On the anniversary of Gandhi's birth, Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated. It is one of the three official declared National Holidays of India and is observed in all Indian states and union territories.

Gandhi was assinated in the garden of his home in New Delhi on 20 January 1948.

Also on this day......

12 October 1925: The first of London's now traditional red buses - with roofed-in upper decks went into service after the lifting of restrictions that had prevented such buses being used in the capital city.
