Asala Dharma Day

image: Buddha's first sermonDharma day is a celebration of the "turning of the wheel of the Dharma" - the Buddha's first sermon. It is traditionally celebrated during the full moon in July. And is generally the start of the rainy season in Nepal, a time when Buddha and his followers would cease their nomadic lifestyle and continue to pray and meditate.

What does Dharma mean?

Dharma means 'truth'.

Who was the Buddha?

A man called Siddhartha Gautama found the path to Enlightenment. By doing so he was led from the pain of suffering and rebirth towards the path of Enlightenment and became known as the Buddha or "awakened one".

Buddhism began in northeastern India and is based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama. The religion is 2,500 years old and is followed by 350 million Buddhists worldwide.
